ActionAid Australia and The Malpa Project; Child Doctors have been voted as Deutsche Bank’s inaugural 'Charities of the Year' (CoTY) partners for 2012. The two charities will form a year-long partnership with the Bank to raise awareness and funding.
Six shortlisted charities ran a two-week campaign for the votes of the Bank’s Australian employees resulting in nearly 1000 votes being cast. These six charities were selected from over 60 charities nominated by Deutsche Bank’s employees. The Bank’s Charity Committee invited the nominated charities to pitch for the position and then selected a short list based on criteria designed to select the best engaged, managed and worthy projects.
Kate Abrahams, Head of Communications & CSR, Deutsche Bank said, “Congratulations to ActionAid Australia and The Malpa Project; Child Doctors as well as all of the charities nominated. CotY has been designed to leverage the Bank’s generous matching and volunteering programs to benefit two projects so they can make a significant impact to their clients. I’m overwhelmed by the passion my colleagues have displayed so far to help people less fortunate than themselves and we are all very much looking forward to CotY 2012.”
ActionAid Australia is an international anti-poverty agency working in over 40 countries across Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe. It works in partnership with poor people to end poverty and injustice together at the root causes.
Maeva Freeman at ActionAid Australia said, “Everyone at ActionAid is thrilled at being selected. We are really excited about developing a program of engaging events next year for all staff. Thank you Deutsche Bank for voting us in!”
The Malpa Project; Child Doctors aims to provide a range of services and education to help reverse the chronic health problems in Indigenous communities where the life expectancy is 19 years less than for non-Indigenous Australians. .
Don Palmer, head of The Malpa Project, said: “Being selected not only means that we can continue to run our innovative Child Doctor project in Central Australia, but it provides an opportunity for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to get to know and understand each other as Malpa's - friends. I have always believed that there is great compassion in the heart of our nation and that Australians are keen to help people help themselves. The Child Doctor project gives that chance to our Aboriginal brothers and sisters and Deutsche Bank's support is instrumental in making this possible.
Charities of the Year 2012 builds on the proven and growing popularity of Deutsche Bank Australia’s established charity programs. It will focus Bank-wide fundraising for an entire year starting February 2012 on the two charities which were nominated and voted for by employees.
The concept was started by the Deutsche Bank Corporate Citizenship team in the UK in 1999 where it has grown to raise over GBP 1m for the chosen charities annually. By introducing the program in Australia, we are adopting a proven fundraising and employee engagement model.
